Building Bold - Submission #85
Sky Train is integral to Vancouver life. It is an active participant of the city landscape. However, it's structure does not blend with the rest of the city. The piers and tracks spanning approximately 68.7km in key areas of Vancouver are awkward and distracting. What lies beneath these structures are uninhabitable and the city has to yield around them for development. VanGate is an ideal solution to develop the areas shadowed by the tracks. It also creates affordable housing. VanGate explores the horizontal development and is responsive to the surrounding areas in form of design and development within the city. Not only does VanGate addresses the concern of affordable housing, the idea opens up the possibility of commercial opportunities and expands the functionality of the sky train. Affordable housing is no longer limited to outskirts of the city but it can be available at an efficient, modern and green space.
